Accessorize For New Year’s Eve With Pame

- Thursday, December 26, 2013

New Year’s Eve is the best time to dress up. Everyone is happy and in the mood to celebrate, and it’s one holiday where we’re actively encouraged to sparkle. But your cocktail dress or sequined top and leather pants are only part of the style equation—your accessories can really make or break your outfit, so choose wisely.

Here are a few ideas for pairing some of jewelry designs with your New Year’s Eve outfit:

If you’re wearing a sequined dress, keep accessories simple to let your dress steal the spotlight. For jewelry, we recommend sticking to a chic pair of earrings, like our Pave Hoops in Light Topaz Crystal.

If you’re going more casual and sticking to a sweater and pants combination, dress it up a bit with some celebrity jewelry: our Triple Pave Nugget Necklace and some bangles.

Perhaps your night calls for an on-trend ensemble like a blouse and a leather skirt. Add a statement piece, like a bold cuff or necklace to complete the look.

There’s nothing wrong with keeping it classic and rocking a little black dress in New Year’s Eve. Add some subtle sparkle with a pair of Green Beryl Drop Earrings

As we clear away the dishes from Thanksgiving dinner, our thoughts naturally turn toward holiday shopping. Whether you go all out on Black Friday or you’re a last-minute shopper, you’ve probably been thinking about your holiday gift-giving plan. And if that to-do list includes getting presents for the ladies in your life, we’d like to suggest the timeless, classy gift of jewelry.

We may be a bit biased, but we think jewelry makes a perfect gift for any loved one. Anyone who’s into fashion will appreciate getting some new accessories, especially the chic jewelry designs at Pame. Jewelry is a very personal gift, often requiring the giver to know the specific taste of the receiver. However, plenty of Pame pieces will make great gifts for any woman who likes to wear beachy resort jewelry or chic accessories. Here are five pieces that lend themselves to any look, making them ideal holiday gifts:

1. The Cut-Out Cuff, in either gold or silver. This hot piece of Hollywood jewelry has been seen on A-list actress Hayden Panettiere and Kristin Davis from Sex & the City, among other famous faces. Though the cuff is a timeless treasure, this cut-out version is totally on-trend. This piece is one of our most popular picks for a reason: it’s so versatile! The Cut-Out Cuff is the perfect gift to give a stylish best friend. She’ll be able to wear it with everything from her New Year’s Eve dress to her summertime bikini.

2. The Silver Stardust Pearl Wrap. Whether it’s your always elegant sister or your sophisticated mother-in-law, you’ve probably got a lady in your life who always looks classy. Treat her to this posh piece of beach jewelry, which can be worn as a bracelet or a necklace. Sterling silver stardust beads combine with 3 freshwater pearls to create this boho chic accessory any classy lady will love.

3. Give the gift of our Pave Hoops to anyone on your list who never leaves her home without a pair of earrings. They come with light topaz crystals, smokey quartz crystals or green opals. And they look amazing with practically any outfit.

4. Our Hand Brushed Lariat makes a beautiful holiday gift for someone extra-special: your best friend or your mother, for example. A blend of 14kt gold and sterling silver set against natural leather, this piece is truly unique. This luxurious necklace is 24” long, so her entire outfit will glisten with a subtle shimmer. What a beautiful gift for someone who deserves only the best!

Gold Plated Versus Gold Filled: What is the Difference?

- Tuesday, August 13, 2013

If you’ve spent some time browsing our jewelry designs, you’ve probably noticed that many of our pieces are labeled “gold filled.” Most people are familiar with gold plated jewelry, but many do not not know what gold filled means or that the two methods are not the same. There are a few key differences between gold plated and gold filled jewelry. For quality and consistency’s sake, we decided to use gold filled products when designing our chic jewelry.

Gold plating means depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. There are several ways to do this, the most common being chemical or electrochemical plating. This gives a metal wire or chain the attractive look of gold. Depending on the method or the thickness, the gold can wear off after long-term use. Gold plated jewelry can also tarnish, especially if the gold is plated on copper.

Gold filled jewelry is sometimes referred to as “rolled gold.” 14kt gold filled wire is made by forming a tube of solid 14kt gold that is “filled” with a base metal. Using heat and pressure, the gold is bonded to the base metal. So although there is a base metal inside, the exterior of the wire—and everything you see and touch—is solid gold. This is why it will not tarnish, chip or wear off.

Unlike gold plated jewelry, gold filled items are regulated by the government. The quantity of gold used in gold filled jewelry must be at least 1/20th the weight of the total product. When you buy a piece of gold filled jewelry, you can be sure it’s a high quality piece. Gold plated jewelry certainly isn’t all poor quality, but because of its lack of regulation, you can never be entirely sure of what you’re getting.

We like to consider Pame jewelry designs investment pieces for the wardrobe. We want you to be able to wear your chic jewelry designs for as long as you wish. Gold filled items are generally considered lifetime products since the gold layer will not wear off. Your pretty gold filled pieces will always look as beautiful as the day you bought them.

Gold filled jewelry is quite common and is even being called the wave of the future. It provides the same traits as solid gold such as beauty, durability, versatility and strength... and it allows you to enjoy high quality chic jewelry at a fraction of the cost.

Jewelry Design Glossary: Ring Settings Part 2

- Thursday, June 6, 2013

As a follow up to our last post on jewelry design, here’s a look at the other main category of ring settings. These are “enclosed settings” or ones that typically fully surround the edges of the stone. These aren’t going to let as much light in, but they do have other advantages:

  • They protect more of the surface of the stone from scratches or other damage
  • They aren’t as likely to get snagged or caught on clothing or other items

Each setting can be done with a single stone (solitaire), a triplet of stones, a cluster, or complete encrustation.

This is a very basic setting with a band of metal encircling a stone. The ring of metal has a groove in it that cups over the edge of the stone, holding it firmly in place. This metal edge can conceal chips along the perimeter of a stone, making it a great option if you have a less than perfect gem that you would like to have made into jewelry without having it recut to a smaller size. The color of the metal will reflect through pale stones such as diamond, so choose your setting material with care.

This is a long groove setting that holds multiple stones next to one another (rather than having a bezel around each individual stone). It is a very nice option if you usually prefer to wear a plain band but want to add sparkle. You might choose all the same gemstones around the circumference of the band or a short channel with different gemstones to mix things up a little. For example, if you have four children, you might have each of their birth stones set into a channel.

This is a gorgeous setting for putting bling on a ring. It is used to completely encrust a surface with many tiny, sparkly gems or crystals to reflect light in a twinkling array of beauty. You can see an example of this setting on the triple pave nugget necklace right here. On a ring, pave is often used to surround larger stones or even to decorate the sides of a ring to add a 3D effect.

Do Celebrity Rings Have a Special Meaning?

- Tuesday, May 28, 2013

As you probably know, celebrities hire all kinds of image consultants to help them put together the perfect outfit for a red carpet or TV appearance. Whatever system a wardrobe coach or image consultant uses, they pay special attention to accessories. They may even use Feng Shui and other symbolic systems to help their clients send the right message. For example, celebrity rings may be carefully selected for design and materials. The finger they are worn on also has symbolic significance. Here’s a rundown of the special meanings of each finger and how you can send a subtle message with your jewelry the same way the stars do:

Index Finger

This is your pointer finger – the one you use to choose what you want. It’s not surprising that wearing a ring on this finger is about decisiveness and leadership. If you want to express determination, adorn this finger.

Middle Finger

The middle finger is about balance, fairness and your sense of right and wrong. This makes sense because it is centrally located on your hand. If you are attempting to be more introspective and “even handed”, wear your ring here. Interestingly, this tends to be the finger where we most often spot celebrities wearing the stacked gold bar ring.

Ring Finger

This finger isn’t just about being married. The ring finger on either hand stands for relationships as well as self-expression. Express your sense of style with a ring on this digit that reminds you of those you love – perhaps one that you received as a gift. It’s a good place for your own birth stone or the birth stone of your spouse or child.

Little Finger

This is your finger for intuitive knowing and cleverness. Be subtle with the ring you choose for this finger. The jewelry piece can be a delicate and ornate item that has its own story that reminds you of a good choice you’ve made.

We won’t leave out this digit – it’s a fantastic place to wear a ring. You’ve heard the expression “having someone under your thumb”. Well, the thumb is an expression of your will in the world. Use it but don’t abuse it! Wear a ring here when you need to boost your own self-confidence and belief in your personal power.
